Houston, Texas Bon Voyage Party

February, 2002

Before we began our journey, we decided to have a little gathering to say goodbye, or shall I say "adios",  to some friends and to formally christen the boat "Heart of Texas" with a Shiner Bock beer bottle -- Texas style christening.

I christened her the "Heart of Texas"

Now, on with the sailing .... our first destination Galveston, Texas then onto Biloxi, Mississippi.   The plan was to leave Galveston heading 75 to 100 miles offshore, cruise around the Mississippi delta and straight into Biloxi, Mississippi.  Why 75 to 100 miles offshore ... because the Gulf of Mexico is dotted with many, many oil platforms not to mention the shrimp boats and container ships that frequent these waters.  Day or night, these things can be quite hazardous, so we headed straight offshore to avoid instead of dodge these possible dangers.  On March 25th, we sailed down to Galveston and left the following morning for Biloxi, Mississippi.
