Deltaville/Heathsville, Virginia August, 2002
During the month of August, we were visiting with our friends Ron and Rita Perlman in Heathsville, Virginia and having some work done on the boat (i.e. waxing and painting the hull, having the pitch adjusted on the prop, replacing zincs, replacing sump pumps, etc.) in Deltaville, Virginia. While the boat was being worked on, we were busy getting various projects done (i.e. this website, minor repairs, etc.) -- you know those "ongoing" tasks. Of course, we did manage to have a lot of fun. We visited with family and friends, went golfing and shopping -- not to mention golfing. It was a joy and pleasure to stay with Ron and Rita and we had gotten very spoiled by staying at their home and using their car. Thanks Ron and Rita for everything....it was greatly appreciated. We also enjoyed the company of Ron's daughter, Lani and her friend Jennifer during our visit. It was a great pleasure being around some younger folks ... half Rankin's age. The girls (Rita, myself, Lani and Jennifer) decided to have a little fun and fix each others makeup and hair ... the guys definitely got a kick out of it. We left Deltaville, Virginia and spent a couple of days hanging out in Hampton, Virginia waiting for Gustav (tropical storm) to pass. Then, we headed to New York which was about a 48 hour sail and we were fortunate to have fairly good conditions during the entire trip -- YEAH. We arrived in New York on Saturday, September 14th and were greeted by hundreds of sail boats ... just kidding. Actually, we arrived just in time to join the Sail for America event which is why there were hundreds of sail boats in the Hudson River. This spectacular event involved about 1,000 sail boats cruising up the Hudson River by Battery Park in remembrance of those lost during the tragic 9/11 terror. It was an honor to have the opportunity to participate in this event.
