Houston, Texas Shakedown Cruise

February, 2002

Janie (Rankin's mother) joined us on February 1st and we left February 2nd on our shakedown cruise.   The purpose of this cruise was to become more familiar with the boat and to work out any "kinks" with the systems.

It was pretty chilly outside and we were trying our best to stay warm.  We cruised down the intra coastal waterway (ICW) and after approximately five days we arrive in Rockport, Texas.

What's there to do in Rockport you might ask.  Well, Rankin and Janie did a little bird watching ... specifically looking for whooping cranes.  There is also a nice little museum in town and our friends Pat and Ester drove down for a weekend visit.  It was a nice to spend time with family and friends and also do a little exploring around town.  Here are some photos of our trip.

After the shakedown cruise, a few items needed to be repaired.  It took about a month for all the work to be completed.  In the meantime, we had a little bon voyage party so we could say goodbye to everyone.
