Exuma Park

April, 2003

On Monday, April 7th, we arrived and grab a mooring at Exuma Park.  It is a National Land and Sea Park, so basically no marine or plant life, whether dead or alive, may be taken, including shells -- which means no fishing.  Since we couldn't fish, Rankin decided to volunteer for a day at the park (actual the park will discount your mooring fee if you work for half day or full day).  His job was to man the jackhammer .... which I hear is not an easy task and not one which many volunteer to tackle.

Do you think he just posed for the picture, hmmmm?

We also did a little snorkeling and some of our cruising friends (I won't mention any names .... Vaughan & Rosie from "Windwalker" and Gus & Marta from the sailing vessel "Koda") chose to snorkel among the lemon sharks which visit the dock near the park office.  We thought maybe next time we'd give it a try (yeah, that's it).   Anyway, we did a little hiking in the area and visited Boo Boo Hill leaving a little reminder of the Heart of Texas.

We're on our way to Boo Boo Hill    We ran into Marta and Gus from Koda on Boo Boo Hill    Top of Boo Boo Hill

Look what Rankin wrote on the wind generator    It's hard to let go    There she sits all alone on Boo Boo Hill

Here's a view of the anchorage from Boo Boo Hill    It's a beautiful site    It's a fabulous park

Cliffs which face the Atlantic    Rankin has an excellent view of the ocean from this cliff    The water is a clear, beautiful aqua blue

There's some wildlife too ... a hermit crab    This lizard blends in well with his environment      No she isn't considered wildlife ... this is Bella, the warden's dog

We stayed at Exuma Park for about three or four days and then sailed to Norman's Cay for only a quick stop.
