French Wells on Crooked Island, Bahamas March, 2003 We really enjoyed our experience at Clarence Town and stayed until Sunday, March 2nd. Then we had a day sail (or shall we say motor, because we used the motor the whole time on this trip) to French Wells which is between Crooked Island and Long Cay and anchored. We went snorkeling to check the anchor and to look around (no sharks this time). We finally took out the hammock and kicked back for a bit. The first day and night were very calm and there was only one boat nearby, so it was very peaceful. The next couple of nights were a bit more interesting ... the wind picked up and the current was very strong so we had to reset the first anchor and drop a second anchor. We didn't get much sleep, but we did get to experience this beautiful sunrise. Since we didn't feel comfortable leaving the boat for any length of time, we hung around the boat just doing odd tasks and making use of the hammock. Our friends, Frank and Libby from Seahorse, joined us in French Wells -- we originally met Frank and Libby in Clarence Town. Frank is an excellent fisherman and they caught a tuna which to our delight they shared with us. We had dinner on their boat and for an appetizer had sashimi (sushi without the rice)... it was delicious. Then for main course we had grilled tuna and mashed potatoes ... everything was excellent. The next day (March 5th) Frank and Libby took Rankin out for a fishing lessons. Rankin learned very quickly and caught a Nassau grouper and a trigger fish though he tossed the trigger fish back. Frank was then generous enough to give Rankin a lesson on how to filet a fish. So, we had grouper for dinner that night, and it was pretty darn good. Thursday, March 6th, we headed back to Clarence Town to pickup our guest Ari Perlman. Click Georgetown & Various Islands to continue reading our exploits. |
