April, 2003 We arrived in Nassau on Saturday, April 12th which gave us a few days to clean up the boat before Janie arrived. She joined us a couple of days later and our adventures began. We decided to spend a couple of days in Nassau exploring Atlantis and then make our way north hitting a couple of islands along the way before we reach Marsh Harbour. After spending a few days in Nassau, we departed and had a pleasant day sail to Royal Island which is south of Abaco. Rankin and Janie did some exploring on the island (it's not a very big island) and then we had another wonderful sail to Little Harbour. We spent a night anchored at Lynard Cay and headed into Little Harbour in the morning. While at Little Harbour, we visited the bronze foundry and stayed for the pig roast or shall I say "wild boar" roast. It was pretty tasty. It was too rough for snorkeling so we spent the afternoon fishing off the boat, watching the turtles swim about and doing a little swimming of our own .... Janie's a fish out of water. We wanted to show Janie a few more of the islands before she had the leave, so we left Little Harbour on Sunday, April 20th. We had a rather bumpy day sail to Baker's Bay and though we tried to catch the evening meal along the way ... we were not successful. We stayed the night at Baker's Bay and the next morning Janie and Rankin did a little shelling on a small island nearby. Then off we went to Hope Town. We spent a day or two making our way around Hope Town and enjoying the esthetic environment which it provides. We climbed the lighthouse to enjoy the stupendous view once at the top. I think Janie beat us all to the top except Richard, a 10 year old local boy who regularly climbs the lighthouse steps. During our tour of the town, we managed to stop by Vernon's grocery store and pick up a Key Lime pie which is one of the best around. Time was running short, so we had to leave for our final destination -- Marsh Harbour. We sailed to Marsh Harbour where Janie and Rankin did a little snorkeling off of Mermaid Reef on Wednesday (4/23) morning before her flight later that afternoon. The time passed too quickly and we sorely miss Janie and can't wait for her next visit. Until then, there are a few photos below of her visit. Click on photos to get a better look. After Janie's departure, we were back to work .... yes, that's right -- work. We had to get the boat ready for our journey back to the states. After preparing the boat, planning the route and gathering all the pertinent weather information, we left Green Turtle, Abaco Bahamas on Monday, April 28th. We had an absolutely fabulous, "as perfect as you can get it", sail back to the states. One to two foot seas with 15-20 knot winds and a gulf stream current in our favor of about 2-3 knots -- who could ask for anything more. Our original plan was to sail directly to Norfolk, Virginia, however, weather dictated otherwise and we arrived in Beaufort, North Carolina at 1:00 am on Friday morning May 2nd. We then spent the next two weeks traveling to Deltaville, Virginia which is where we'll leave the boat. Yes, we left the boat, so we could tour Australia and New Zealand.
