British Virgin Islands

May, 2004

Our first stop in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) was at Soper's Hole in Tortola where we checked in, shopped and helped a couple secure their boat to a mooring.

After a few days, we sailed off to Norman's Island which is known for Willy T's restaurant and the great snorkeling at the caves.  Willy T's, a boat anchored off Norman's Island, is known for it's party atmosphere and free T-shirts which you only get if you jump off the stern of the boat naked ... yes, that's right naked.  It is definitely a fun, happening place.  Besides the free t-shirts, the bartender will give you a lick on tattoo, AND that's not the best part.  If you look like Kenny Rogers (like Rankin), he'll play a rap version of "Know When to Hold'em".  Needless to say, we had a great time, unfortunately, photos aren't available.

We spent about a month in the British Virgin Islands, so I'll just highlight the rest of our island visits.  On Salt Island, we snorkeled on the RMS Rhone, a ship wrecked during a hurricane in the 1800's.  At Virgin Gorda we snorkeled and then relaxed at the "baths" and later stopped by the Bitter End for a bit.  During our visit to Jost Van Dyke, we visited Foxy's and watched a friendly match of tug-of-war between the island children.  At Trellis Bay on Tortola, we went to the Loose Mongoose with friends and listened to M.J. Blues perform ... he was great.  At Marina Cay also on Tortola,  we hooked up with Walt, Pat and their family from the sailing vessel Centime and listened to Michael Bean, a local performer.   I think that's it, and though we couldn't get photos of all these events here are some which you might enjoy.

Though we only planned on spending a couple of weeks in the BVI, we were slightly delayed by mail and weather and made the best of it.  What a place to be delayed.  Anyway, our package never came, but our experiences will be with us for a lifetime ... we had a great time, but it was time to move on.   Take a look at What's Happening to see the latest.  Don't forget ... keep coming back.
