June, 2004
On Wednesday, June 23rd, we sailed from Les Saintes to Portsmouth, Dominica and after about five hours arrived in Dominica. We were promptly greeted by Martin from Providence, a local gentleman who assisted us with tours of the island. That evening we had cocktails with some friends Geoffrey & Kath from Gladys and Walt & Pat from Centime and made plans for the next day. The next day Martin gave us an unforgettable tour of the island and did an outstanding job. It is apparent how much he loves his country, and his knowledge of local plants and customs is unending. All along our tour, we sampled pineapple, mango, and coconut. Martin showed us the local vegetation like coffee bean tree, coco bean plant, sour sop, basil, nutmeg, cinnamon, pineapple, banana, mango, calabash, ginger root, and several others which seem to escape me right now. As you can imagine, thanks to Martin, it was a great visit. Here are just a few photos from our tour. After our tour, we took a quick break and then met for cocktails on Centime's boat. It's a beautiful Shearwater 39, and we love to check out other boats as well as visit with friends. We didn't stay too late, because the next day we were sailing to Martinique which would be a full day sail. Take a look at What's Happening to see the latest. Don't forget ... keep coming back. |
