June, 2004
On Friday, June 18th, we left Monserrat and had a very nice sail to Deshais (pronounced DAY HAY), Guadeloupe. This island, known by the Caribs as Karukera (Island of Pretty Waters), is a part of France. It is partly agricultural, with the emphasis on sugar cane, and the local "rhum" is highly valued in France. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try or buy any of the local "rhum" ... maybe another time. We did manage to walk around town a bit. On Saturday morning, Rankin found that we had lost our radar reflector and TV antenna which were bolted to the mast ... you know how it goes. Later, we toured the little town of Deshais with Carl from Coshi, had lunch and then kicked back for the remainder of the day. It was time to get moving again. Though we didn't get to see much of Guadeloupe, we did get a few pictures as we sailed along the coast. Maybe we'll get to really explore the country during another visit. Now, our travels take us to Les Saintes to see the latest information click on What's Happening. Don't forget ... keep coming back. |
