St. Lucia

July, 2004

On Thursday, July 1st, we left Marin, Martinique with Centime and sailed to Rodney Bay, St. Lucia.  Unfortunately, Gladys was finishing some boat work and could not join us for the sail to St. Lucia.  Hopefully, we'll get to see them again soon.  Our first night was relaxing and peaceful, we anchored the boat near Pigeon Island and played board games with Centime.

The next day we, along with Centime, hiked up to the local fort (currently, I just cannot remember the name).  Then arranged to have a taxi tour around the island with Michael.  We visited the Mamiku Gardens, a drive through volcano (that's right, through the volcano), viewed the spectacular Toraille waterfall and had dinner at a local fish fry at Anse La Raye where they played a good range of country western music.  We were gone for about 12 hours and though most of it was fairly pleasant and relaxing sometimes the road conditions provided for a pretty bumping, head rattling experience ... not to mention the traffic.  Road construction and traffic ... sounds like Houston, huh!!!  Here are a few photos from this journey.

During our time at Rodney Bay, we met several other cruisers and decided to spend the July 4th holiday with fellow Americans in a British pub called Cat's Whiskers.  We celebrated with old friends, Centime and Miss Heidi and met new friends, Olga & Don from Richard Cory, Dave & Charly from Adventure.  It was nice to celebrate with other cruisers, however, we missed our families and friends for the holiday.

The next day we sailed to Pitons and the beauty is beyond description and maybe even my photography abilities.  Take a look.

Without delay, we were on our way to Wallilabou, St. Vincent.

Take a look at What's Happening to see the latest.  Don't forget ... keep coming back.
