St. Vincent

July, 2004

After about a 6 hour sail, we arrived in Wallilabou, St. Vincent at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6th.  We were again greeted by a nice man named Kevin from Think Before You Speak (that's the name of his boat, and Rankin really liked it).  Kevin rowed out quite a distance to meet us and then graciously helped us with the mooring line.  He was very nice, polite and very helpful.  He gave us a little information about the island and also gave us a few fresh mangos before he left.

Before our arrival, we didn't realize that Wallilabou is where the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean" was filmed.  Most of the structure still exists and it is most evident after watching the movie (again).  Do you recognize these photos from the movie??

The next day we had a quick, pleasant sail to Petit Byahaut, a small quiet anchorage south of Wallilabou in St. Vincent.  A young boy (13 years old) named Mykiya helped us tie our stern line to a tree, so we were set.  That afternoon, Rankin cleaned the boat bottom and I went snorkeling with Centime.

Pat & I toasting a great day!!!

The next day we snorkeled with Centime at the bat cave ... that's right, bat cave.  While you swim through the cave, bats are squeaking and flying wildly about just inches above your head ... we barely made it out unharmed. It was quite exciting.  We then snorkeled the nearby reef and it was spectacular.  After a day of swimming, we relaxed and then had Centime over for cocktails before the four of us went to dinner at the nearby restaurant.  We were the only four people in the restaurant and Chef Bryan did an excellent job.

On Friday, July 9th, we sailed away from Petit Byahaut towards Bequia, an island that is part of the Grenadines.  If you would like to catch up on the latest, take a look at What's Happening.  Keep coming back.
