Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival

San Diego, California

May, 2005

In May, we attended the Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival in San Diego. We have attended other Golden Oldies Festivals all over the world with the Texas XXXs club, but this was the first time the Okaloosa Rugby Club from the Ft. Walton Beach area of the Florida panhandle attended as a team. Rankin was a founding member of the club, so it was good to see all the old team members and play three rugby matches with them. The Old Okaloosa Pirates (OOPS) combined with the Texas XXXs to fill out a side, so we had the best of both worlds. The final dinner with over 2,000 people was on the flight deck of the USS Midway, a decommissioned aircraft carrier now serving as a tourist attraction in San Diego. The photo below shows Rankin having a little fun at one of the games.

You can see a video which includes more of the week's activities by clicking  the play button below.  It is  a short video (about 2 minutes) of our trip to the 2005 Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival in San Diego, California.  We had a great time with old friends and their family, who joined us in the festivities.  You may notice, the festival is not just about rugby.  We had a pirate theme ... our team name was the Okaloosa Old Pirates.  Please note:  The size of this video clip is approximately 3 Mb, and therefore, may take a moment to download.  Sorry for the wait!!

After a relaxing and enjoyable trip to San Diego, it was back to work.   If you would like to catch up on the latest travels, take a look at What's Happening.  Don't forget ... keep coming back.
