Bonaire

July, 2006

Our sail began in St. Croix and after three and a half days, we made it to Bonaire on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 ... Happy Fourth of July (see chart below).  It was a nice, easy sail and we had a great time though we were glad to finally arrive in Bonaire.

Shortly upon our arrival, I signed up for dive classes.  Rankin is certified and has been for years, but I wasn't and really didn't think it was necessary.  After much encouragement from many people, I decided now was the best time and place.  I was complete content with snorkeling, but now I love to dive and don't know what took me so long.  Rankin and I spent three weeks in Bonaire diving, dining and relaxing.  We loved it ... I didn't want to leave.  Here are some pictures of what we experienced in Bonaire.  We would like to thank our friends Lynn and Todd on the sailing vessel Blue Marine for sharing their photos with us.  Thanks so much for sharing your art.

Rankin was diviing while I was getting my dive certification    Left to right ... my dive buddy Jerome, my instructor Roxi and me

Our friend Todd captured me during one of my classes jumping off the swim platform    Spotted eel

Squid    Moray eel

Trunk fish larvae ... you wouldn't believe how small this guy really is in person    Me and Rankin down below

This bright yellow guy is a frog fish ... hard to spot    Our friend Todd who took all these great photos

At night we'd enjoy a nice dinner at one of the many great restaurants in Bonaire

Our three weeks in Bonaire went by at the speed of light and it was time to leave ... though I wasn't in a hurry ... begging didn't work.  We left for Curacao which is about a day sail west of Bonaire.  Now onto Curacao or if you would like to catch up on the latest travels, take a look at What's Happening.  Don't forget ... keep coming back.
