June - December, 2008
We ended up staying in St. Augustine, Florida until June 10, 2008 while we finished boat work like hauling out the boat, having the bottom painted and paying for work we couldn't or wouldn't do. It took almost a month to finish and finally we were ready to sail or at least move. On June 10th, we left St. Augustine and spent the next three and a half days sailing and motor sailing North around Cape Hatteras (a notoriously difficult and sometimes dangerous area) up to Deltaville, Virginia. We had a pleasant and sometimes boring trip from St. Augustine to Deltaville, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. We arrived in Deltaville, Virginia on Friday, June 13th arriving in the afternoon and promptly had our friends from Norton's over for happy hour that evening. While in Deltaville, our friend Jerry (nicest guy in the world next to Rankin) was kind enough to let us borrow his truck, which was a lifesaver for us. Thank you so much, Jerry. The next two and a half weeks flew by and we were busy, you guessed it, doing additional boat work things that we preferred to have done at Norton's. Next thing you know it was Fourth of July and time to celebrate with friends. Jerry came down from Fredericksburg, VA and joined us for the sail. The sailing vessel Centime also joined us. Walt and Pat (Centime) their daughter Corey and her husband Chris sailed along with us on their vessel. We had a nice sail to Carter's Creek and it was a beautiful day. We arrived around noon anchored, rafted up our boats and had a nice brunch. Before we knew it, it was time for the fireworks to begin. Tide's Inn began the display first followed by an even better show by a nearby resident ... very nice. The next day Heart of Texas and Centime sailed to Reedville to meet up with Ron and Rita at Crazy Crab restaurant for cocktails, dinner and to enjoy more fireworks. Click on the picture below to view a slide show of our 4th of July ... hope you enjoy the it.
