The Boat

Heart of Texas, July 2002

The Heart of Texas is a Hunter Passage 450 (45' sloop) sailboat with a 5 1/2' draft, 14' beam and 63' mast (the height of the mast is particularly important to know when going under bridges, power cables, etc.), 200 gallon total fresh water capacity plus a Spectra Newport 400 water maker (Rankin loves to make water), 100 gallon fuel capacity, Kohler generator, 76 hp Yanmar turbo diesel engine, radar, GPS electronic chart plotter, single side band (short-wave) transceiver, KISS wind generator, 3 solar panels, 2 heads (bathrooms for you landlubbers), 2 private staterooms and last but not least 6'6" headroom in the salon.   Well, this is our home .... yes, our home.  We managed to fit most of our belongings (at least the necessary things -- swimsuits, food, wine and beer) on the Heart of Texas.  Actually, we still have a few items in storage which are things we couldn't carry aboard or bear to discard.  Now, onto the crew.
